Background
Black wax absorbs and wards; purple drips crown the flame with spiritual sovereignty; white drips clarify and cleanse. Each taper is dressed with lavender oil, rolled in mugwort, anise seeds, and blue butterfly pea flowers, and bound with a star anise at its heart. Manually dripped in purple and white wax, the herbs are sealed in place—every taper carrying its own unique pattern, proof of the maker’s hand. Crafted as a complete spell, this candle is meant to burn through in a single vigil. It is already ritualized and ready to use.

How to Use

• Cleanse your space with your smoke cleansing tool or spray of choice.

• Ground yourself. Be ready to immerse in a solemn time with the Spirits or the next half hour or so.

• Place the candle in a heat-safe holder. If none is available, secure it in a bowl of white salt—salt catches drips and subdues flame.

• Breathe. Whisper your intention into the wick. Ask what needs anchoring: balance, stability, protection, or clarity in your situation.

• Light and let the candle burn through fully (~20 minutes). Do not interrupt. If the flame goes out naturally, relight it.

• Ensure it burns to the end or at least within a half-inch of the base.

• Scatter cooled remnants at a threshold or bury in earth to close the spell.

• Thank the Spirits before leaving your space.

Maker’s Note
Each vigil flame is hand-dressed with lavender oil, herb-rolled with a combo of mugwort, anise seeds, blue butterfly pea flowers and manually dripped in purple and white. A star anise seals the candle. Burned whole, it is a spell that keeps watch. Each candle is wax-dripped by hand, one by one. I let the sealing wax fall naturally until the taper takes the form it needs. Creating and ritualizing each piece takes me about 15–20 minutes—the same time it will take you to burn it as a complete spell at home.

Burn with care on a stable, fire-safe surface. These candles are hand-dressed to flame, burn, and even crackle—this is intentional and not a cause for alarm. Do not light in crowded spaces. Never leave it unattended. Safety always comes first: if the fire feels overwhelming, keep a cup of salt nearby to dowse and subdue the flame. Fear of the flame can also ripple into the spiritual work—sit with those feelings and discern what they reveal. Do not dress the candle further with additional oils or herbs.
